Wendy C. Peoples
Wendy C. Peoples has been practicing criminal defense since 1988. She received her J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law. She began her career in death penalty defense at the Alameda County Public Defender’s Office in Oakland, California, as the legal research attorney in the capital trial unit. After leaving that office, she has specialized in death penalty cases in a post-conviction posture at the California Appellate Project and California’s Office of the State Public Defender, as well as in private practice. She has been directly involved in federal habeas proceedings for death row inmates in California, Georgia, Florida and Nevada. She has authored materials for California’s Death Penalty Defense Manual and has lectured nationally on habeas-related topics for the past two decades. In addition to consulting on death penalty cases in federal habeas proceedings and participating in HAT's many seminars, part of Wendy’s work for HAT is maintaining HAT’s portion of capdefnet.org, including posting new habeas-related developments and locating sample materials of use to capital habeas practitioners.
